About ‘Afterglow’
Sometimes when the sun sets and a riot of light ensues, the fire in the sky ignites me too. I have a desire to capture that. Moved to try to preserve it somehow in a rectangle or square. Why? I wish I could tell you. Isn’t it enough just to see and to feel, to love the moment? No. There’s a compulsion to seize and retain it, this thing that I’m seeing, be with it for a bit then turn it over to you. And on top of it all when the mystery and loveliness of a stand of trees is reflected in a mirror of water, what then? The heart leaps even more. With it the strange urge to arrest the scene in copper, oxides and paint, a memory of joy.
