About ‘Rocky Shore’
An odd bit of trivia about Rocky Shore is that it started out as one of the flanking panels in a triptych, a three-panel artwork. This triptych hung in a gallery on Coronado Island. A client came along who wanted only the center, not the two side pieces. I agreed to let them have it that way, though I didn’t understand it. The collector does get to assert their vision and desires I feel though, so an artist sometimes swallows and lets it be. Each of the side panels made fine pieces hung on their own and went to others. Again the shore at Poipu in Hawaii is the inspiration here. The rocks were black in reality but needed to be bright copper in some places in the art to capture the dramatic impact, I felt.
